Nothing But The Truth, So Help Me!– On Day 26

You remember that I’m doing NaBloPoMo, right? Yea, the writing challenge – I’ve committed to putting up at least one post every single day for the month of November. I think this is day 26. Thanks for sticking with me!

Today I found inspiration from Aussa Loren’s blog post, which was, in turn inspired by Sips Of Jen And Tonic‘s blog. The idea is to write five things that are true – and one lie!  And yes! You guessed it, it’s YOUR job figure out which one is the lie, and leave a comment stating your hunch.

Truth Concept

Truth be told, I’m glad NaBloPoMo is winding down, but here goes:

1) My father killed my cat named Candy when I was about 8 years old. He used a thick, shaved tree branch to bust her head open. Right on the carpet next to the bunk bed I shared with my sisters. Before Candy finished convulsing, he picked her up and threw her out the backyard window where she landed on a concrete slab two stories down.

2) When I was 17 years old, my boyfriend shot himself in the leg with  9mm block by accident. We were standing in the Bedford-Nostrand Avenue subway station in Brooklyn one hot summer night in August. Afterwards, I carried the gun in the waist of my Levi’s jeans while we hailed a cab to his friend’s house in Brownsville. Later that night, I wound up in a jail cell at the 79th precinct.

3) I signed up for the Army when I was 18, but didn’t make it through Basic Combat Training at Fort Drum in New York. Actually, I made it through week four and had five more to go. My initial goal was to join the Air Force, but my father being an Army Vet convinced me otherwise. I think I dodged a bullet. Military life wouldn’t have been for me. The day I failed was one of the best days of my life.

::::::::::::::::::::

4) Growing up, my dream was to become an actress. I majored in drama at a middle school for the gifted and talented, in Brooklyn, NY – and again in high school. My mother had a long list of phobias that included trains (and elevators, and airplanes, and bridges, and tunnels), so she didn’t allow me to audition for Laguardia High School of Performing Arts. She would only allow me go to a high school that was accessible by public bus. I wound up someplace pretty violent, but managed to graduate without real incident – Erasmus Hall High School.

???????????????????????????????????????

5) I’m celibate.

6) I’m a reformed shopaholic. At one point, I felt guilty enough to hide bags in the trunk of my car, sneak them in the house, put them in the back of the closet, wear new stuff and pretend I had it all along! Not sure what my motivation was– well, I like clothes. And shoes, but it was MY money, so no big deal.  I still engage in retail therapy (especially with one of my favorite stores – Anthropologie being so close to my job!), but I’m doing much better now. I went to Macy’s Herald Square last Friday night and only walked out with new mascara.

So, which is the LIE? What’s true?! I’ll tally up your responses and write a new “clarification” post, divulging all the details.

If you decide write a post based on the same idea, leave a link in my comments so I can see! Thanks.

  1. Hmmm! These are difficult! The first two are way too wild to NOT be lies 😉 And if #1 really is true, then…. I’m sorry, that’s so so sad…

    So, I’m tempted to go with celibacy… but then I feel like it’s a trick, like “maybe she’s only celibate because she’s not currently dating anyone so technically it’s true.” HMMM…

    Therefore, I will go with #6– You aren’t a recovering shopaholic!

  2. I am going to guess the last one is a lie. If you are really celibate…mad props to you for being able contain that!
