The Changes I’m Going Through

My life is about to change. This is always the case though, right? Change is always lurking over the horizon? From day-to-day, minute-to-minute…

What’s happening with me these days:

School

One planned change I intend to make is to go back to school next year. I’m looking at New York University’s offering for an MFA in Literary Reportage. I would love to take on this challenge. Universe, do you hear me?! Thank you in advance! This endeavor would only move me closer toward my potential and into a career that I’m passionate about. Being around creatives gives me life.

Nest Life

My daughter who commutes to college should be living on campus as of next fall – which would render me a real empty nester. I’ll miss her – but, change is good. πŸ™‚ One downside: I’ll be responsible for walking our dog Gracie. Unsure why I let my son convince me to get a dog. Welp!

The Parent Life

My mother’s been in and out of the hospital lately and is needing more help deciding on a course of action as far as medical treatment and living arrangements. I live the closest to her although I’m one state away. I’m gonna have be a lot more involved in her care. Change is on the horizon, but I haven’t figured it out yet.

Travel & Companionship – Life!

Also – I’ve been doing some traveling; I know I’ve refrained from sharing those stories here. My travel companion and I have been making great memories together – and that makes me happy. Next up on my radar are London and Ghana! Woop woop! My only reservations are that I get panicky on airplanes (really bad sometimes), and I need just shy of one hundred vaccines to go to Ghana. Gross exaggeration, but I’ve never considered getting a flu vaccine, or any of the others. Bleh.

Unmentionable

There are changes happening at work (my 9 to 5 job), but I’ll save you the torture/ boredom!

Yea, my life is about to change – for the best! Isn’t that what we’re about – expecting the best?

I should tell you that there’s a lot happening that’s taking me outside my comfort zone. But that’s where the best, most fruitful changes occur.

What kinds of changes do you have on the horizon? Anything you hope to do or accomplish? Any advice for handling unexpected change, or aging parents? Any travel plans? Budding new relationships? How do you hope those changes will impact you?

  1. I’m sorry to hear about your mom i didn’t know she was in and out of the hospital.
Changes are definitely in the air. I’m about to move to another state and I’m kind of nervous about that. I plan on finishing up my degree also this fall. Good luck girl. Change is good and necessary.

  2. you don’t have to get those vaccines. I went to Tanzania and refused the shots. I don’t trust vaccines. With that said, get your travel on. Traveling the world really changes how you view things. You get to see how other people live and how to interact with different cultures.

  3. Sorry to hear about auntie. I didn’t know she was sick. Dealing with the aging parents…. I can relate. When ever I visit my parents, I have the tendency to stare and ask myself all kinds of questions…. “What would I do without them?” “Will it drive me insane to lose one of them?” I don’t know why I have these thoughts but I take one day at a time.

I have plans to go back to school also. My major is Psychology. I think so much out the box til the point I surprise myself. Yeah! Scary!

Change is good, but scary at the same time.

    • Yea, I guess we never think too much about aging parents until the issues crop up. It also makes you wonder “gosh, who’s gonna take care of me?” And that motivates me to take care of myself. Good luck with school.. I’m sure you’ll do well!

  5. I hope your mother is doing better. London and Ghana! Wow, that does sound exciting. I don’t have trips planned, but my son is badgering me for a vacation to Costa Rica. I’d love to go, but honestly, my kids can’t travel in the same car to Walmart without getting into a fight, I can’t imagine what a 6 hour flight would be like……
