Lately I’ve been reading my journals and reflecting on different stages of “the single life,” and now, a budding romantic partnership. It’s always interesting to see how processes unfold – even when I’m in the mix.
Riding the train last night, I skimmed through and picked out some “found language.”
“…signs of the part of me that was breaking down…” –bell hooks
“Return to the place where you remember your self and your being.” –bell hooks
“I can really only represent myself.” –Laverne Cox
“It’s not an either or world.” –bell hooks
“Give yourself permission to have an expansive imagination to do different things.” –bell hooks
“Make a decision. How far do you wanna go with something?” –bell hooks
“I hadn’t been able to bring myself, during the ride back – during our trip from the airport to the hospital – to tell my father that she was already dead.” –Me
“I think my love and lust for the black man pre-dates my existence on this planet.” –Me
“Meeting him means deconstructing and rebuilding.” –Me
“I wanna feel your breathing and your heart beating.” —LB

Chime in! Have you read or heard any words or phrases from others (“found language”) that have stuck with you? Any notes from your journals? How about things people have said to you in the past that you’ve replayed in your mind over and over? Do share.
Does any of my found language resonate with you?

The wounds of the past only hurt because our thoughts keep them alive…

Shakiyla, I don’t know if it’s occurred to you, but since you’ve fallen in love, your outlook has changed. It’s not one specific post, but a general feel to your blog. It’s a wonderful feeling, isn’t it? Congratulations and I look forward to your future posts.

Really? Well, I noticed that my last 7 or so posts had something to do with that. Lol. This is probably my third time posting found language from journals though. It’s just been awhile. But in any case, I hope you appreciate the change of tone. I’m about to read the link you shared.

The V-Pub nailed it. LOL. Your outlook, your insight, your perspective … hell, even the way you write and the words you choose to express your thoughts has deepened and expanded. If I wasn’t hooked before, I would be now. LOLOLOL
Yeah, I have to completely agree with ‘V’. I look forward to seeing those tweets highlighting these entries. ADDICTING, to say the least.

Yes, ma’am … ’tis true. =) Some of my friends have even made comments regarding the way I write and express my thoughts; how I’ve developed a certain style of putting thoughts out there. I gotta admit, it kinda floored me, too. LOL.
But yeah, I would definitely agree that our thoughts – and how we express those thoughts – are shaped by the things we go through, deal with, and adapt to. It’s how we grow in our craft. =)

Well said. I’m hoping to continue growing and improving. A metamorphosis of sorts.
